BEAR MOUNTAIN LODGE - January 2023

Happy New Year!

LODGE NEWS:

It's all about cookbook and new website this month.  We are testing measurements, techniques, and making decisions about which recipes to use. (Yes, Lemon Pud, Carrot Cake, Banana Bread and Crab Cakes are in it!)  Mimbres Press of Western New Mexico is creating the book about the Lodge. Local photographer, Jay Hemphill is going to do the photography. The cookbook will highlight the history of the Lodge, the artwork, the animals, and of course the favorite recipes. We are also planning a chapter devoted to green chile and its importance to the region.  It is very exciting.

Ah, the new website. We are still working on it. If you can, please make reservations using it. We will give you 10% off any reservation you make, if you tell us it was easy or what you didn't like. If it is too hard call us and we will do it and still give 10% off.  We really want to know how it works or doesn't for you.

CAFE NEWS:

We are planning on special menus this month. It's all about cookbook.  The special menus allows us to cook our recipes for Jay to photograph and we can perfect the measurements and document the techniques.

January 14th will feature Lodge comfort food.  The chicken is roasted in white wine and fresh sage and seasoned with a pistachios date mixture. We are also cooking a green chile pork stew, and veggie green chile butternut squash enchiladas. All served with wild rice pilaf and figgy carrots. Chocolate Pound Cake with caramel sauce and strawberries

January 22nd we are celebrating The Year of the Rabbit for Chinese New Year's. The stars of the evening will be a crab stew, chicken with pistachios and sesame, veggie orange noodles, and potstickers!

January 28th We will make our famous New Mexico Green Chile Pot Roast, Poached Chicken in green chile and tamarind, and Homemade Mac and Cheese. Apple Tart for dessert. If you recognize a theme, it is green chile. We are planning an entire chapter in the cookbook devoted to Hatch green chile. Complete menus will be online the first week of January. Come and feast with us.

GALLERY NEWS:

Miriam Hill's Sterling Gallery has moved into the downtown location. We are collaborating with artists from both galleries. She has a great collection of art and the upstairs is a beautiful display of work by Blue Dome artists. This collaboration is permitting us the time to focus on the cookbook. We are featuring the Blue Dome artists in the cookbook. We have already started with Chris McDaniel's work. (See picture below). The cookbook is going to be a delightful  history of the gallery artists.

BARN NEWS:

Everyone is good.  The horses are muddy from the rain we just got. So are the cows! Rain is always a good thing here, Spring is just around the corner. Charlsie Mae and Zack are having fun running and playing. She is already, at 7 months, bigger than Zack. She loves toys! There are toys everywhere where she is! Definitely a material girl. Mui Mui is snuggling up to the fireplace. He thinks canines waste energy and are silly. In other words all is good. We are looking forward to a great year. Yesterday's rain is a great omen to a new wonderful year to come.

We look forward to seeing everyone in the new year.
