BEAR MOUNTAIN LODGE - February 2023

Looking for Things to Do?

The Catwalk is beautiful!

LODGE NEWS:

We went to the Catwalk the other day. It was beautiful, the air was crisp, the river babbling, and the scenery grand. It was almost empty of humans, the birds were singing, and the light was amazing. We had lunch at the Alma Cafe the green chile was good both on the enchiladas and on the cheeseburger. A good time was had by all.

We have had a lot of rain for area. The Spring should be amazing. See the photo below the dirt tank looks like a pond.

I got to see a Sharp-shinned hawk chasing a raven the last week. The hawk was the aggressor and the raven headed directly at me...a smart move it disrupted the hawk trajectory and definitely took the raven out of its path. The hawk made the the raven look clunky, it was so fast and fleet in movement. "Raptors of New Mexico"describes the Sharp-shinned hawk as " 100 grams of trouble". I will say that's exactly what I witnessed.

FYI: a group of hawks is called a cast and a group of ravens has many names-a murder, an unkindness, a treachery, a conspiracy, and a rave (says a lot about our human interaction with them). We know they are smart and clever i.e. using me as a divergence.
